How often you should go to the hair salon

If you’ve ever asked “how often should I really be going to the hair salon?” you’re not alone. This really is one of the most common questions we hear from our clients, and whether you’re looking for a simple trim or a complete hair transformation, the answer really varies. How often you should be going to the hair salon depends on your hair type, your goals, your desired style, your lifestyle, and your personal preferences. But we all love a guide that helps us figure out what’s best for our hair, so we’re breaking down how you can decide the frequency of your appointments!

Hair length & style

Keeping up a hairstyle requires regular trims - if your hair is short, you’ll be in the salon more frequently for trims to keep your shape than if you had longer hair. But a longer hairstyle still means you need regular trims to keep your hair healthy. So here’s our recommendation for how often you should be in the salon depending on your hair length & style:

SHORT HAIRCUTS

If you keep your hair short, like in a pixie or bob cut, we recommend coming in for a trim every 4-6 weeks. Short haircuts can quickly lose their definition and become uneven or shaggy, so keeping your hair short requires frequent visits.

LONG HAIRCUTS

Keeping your hair long is a little less maintenance than shorter styles, but we still recommend coming in every 8-12 weeks. Even if you’re actively trying to grow your hair out, it’s important to keep your hair free

Colour maintenance

Your salon schedule is not only dependent on your hair length, but also on your colour! There are lower maintenance and higher maintenance colouring options, and these will dictate how often you should be coming in to see us.

HIGHLIGHTS & BALAYAGE

For those who’ve been getting highlights & balayage, a visit every 6-8 weeks is typical to maintain a fresh and well-blended look. Toning highlighted hair is also crucial to keeping the colour looking bright, so keeping up a regular schedule is important.

FULL COLOUR

Depending on the kind of colour you’re going for and how different it is from your natural colour, we recommend that you book an appointment every 4-6 weeks. This will depend on how quickly your roots grow and how much upkeep your chosen colour requires. High maintenance hair colours include reds, silvers, and whites, so you’ll likely need hair colour appointments more often than lower maintenance colours.

Hair treatment needs

Your hair health is a collaborative effort, and we’re very proud to offer some incredible treatments here at our salon to keep your hair looking and feeling its best. You can add our treatments on to your regular maintenance appointments, so between 4-12 weeks depending on your needs, or you can book something like a blowout and add your favourite treatment on to that.

Hair treatments are effective in targeting your unique hair needs, so whether you’re looking for strengthening, smoothing, hydrating, volumizing, adding more shine, or even revitalizing your scalp, we have a targeted treatment you’ll love.

Personal preferences & lifestyle

The biggest deciding factor in how often you should visit the salon is you. How often are you wanting to come in to maintain your look? Do you do at-home treatments to keep your hair healthy? Do you prefer high maintenance or low maintenance colour? Do you keep your hair short or let it grow out?

Our talented team of hair artists can help you determine which hair appointment frequency is best for you and work with you to determine a style and colour that works best for you. Scheduling regular hair appointments ensures that your hair stays healthy, vibrant, and always looking its best. Your stylist is your partner in keeping your hair gorgeous and glowing.

So how often should you visit the hair salon? As often as it takes to keep your hair looking the way you want it to! Reserve your appointment spot online and talk to your stylist to come up with a hair plan together. We can’t wait to see you!
