Have you noticed that your hair gets more frizzy during certain seasons, or even a little extra dry? We often change up our hairstyles from season to season, but our hair needs actually change, too! Our hair care should evolve each season to ensure that our locks stay healthy and well-protected.
If you’re a little confused about how to effectively care for your hair in each season, but want to learn, you’re in the right place! We did all the research for you. Here’s how each season affects your gorgeous strands and what you can do to help your hair adapt.
Spring
What to look out for
The Spring season is the rainy season, and while blooming flowers love the rain, our hair doesn’t. Rain water can actually rob our hair of its natural moisture, leaving it vulnerable to breakage and frizz. We also tend to go lighter with our hair colour as the winter ends, which causes even more damage to our hair.
What you can do
As long as you can keep your hair from getting rained out, it’s a great season to experiment with blowouts and new hairstyles! You’ll also want to repair any damage from the winter months and be sure to protect your hair from the rain.
Products to think about
To combat rain damage, use 1-2 pumps of the neuMoisture Argan Oil in your hair to help fortify and repair your hair.
If you want to switch up your look and go with a lighter hair colour for spring, you can use the Backlight 18-in-1 Beautifier. This mist prepares, protects, and enriches highlighted, bleached, and colour-treated hair with nourishing ingredients for the ultimate hydration.
Summer
What to look out for
The summer season brings sunshine, hot temperatures, and a lot of humidity! The sun’s harmful UV rays and chlorine from pools can cause our hair to become dry and brittle, as well as cause premature fading in dyed hair.
What you can do
If you can avoid getting your hair wet while swimming in a pool, we recommend it! Try tying your hair up with a silk scrunchie to avoid excess damage. If you don’t think you can avoid it, we suggest rinsing out your hair with regular water immediately after your swim.
It’s also best to avoid styling your hair with heated tools as often as you can during the summer season. Try the heatless curls trend or heatless braided beach waves if you’re looking to style your hair.
Products to think about
Using a heat protector during the summer is non-negotiable if you want to keep your hair nice and healthy. We have a few to choose from at our salon, so you can find one that best suits your hair needs.
For the clients who love going blonde during the summer, we have just the two products for you. To keep your blonde hair looking fresh, we recommend using our Blacklight Blue shampoo and conditioner throughout the summer.
Fall
What to look out for
During the fall season, our hair is still recovering from the summer season and prepping for a cold winter. More than likely, your hair is lacking a bit of moisture after having spent an entire 3 months under the scorching sun. However, the Fall air won’t give you much relief. During this season the air tends to be a bit dry, which may leave you with some mild hair breakage or even dandruff.
What you can do
Use this season to give your hair and scalp a little extra TLC. It’s a good time to treat your hair to hydrating products to revive any dryness, and lock in some moisture before the winter creeps in.

Winter
What to look out for
The extremely cold temperatures and dry air of the winter season will suck up any moisture from your hair like nothing else. This leaves you vulnerable to split ends, mild hair loss, and frizz for those 3 long months. We don’t want that for you!
What you can do
To give your hair its best chance at fighting off any damage from the winter season, you’ll need to religiously use hydrating products in your hair care routine. It’s also a good idea to stray away from using hot water in your showers because anything hotter than lukewarm water can damage your hair more.
Products to think about
We have a whole collection of hydration products, but we especially love using the neuMoisture Intensive Masque in our winter hair care routines. The natural ingredients work to rehydrate thirsty hair which is perfect for this season.
